Things We LOVE: Greek Stuff! (Beauty)

Greek Yogurt – Yum!  Kalamata Olives – Yum!  Feta – Yum! Throw in some beautiful greek islands, greek mythology, the Parthenon, a gyro and, man, I’m there!   Lately, I’m into all things greek, especially beauty products.  Beauty products?  Yes!  Ladies (and gentlemen), it is my pleasure to introduce to you, the incredible, the lovely, the affordable KORRES!!!   I have sampled a wide range of products from Korres (ok, I won’t lie, I’ve done more than sample, I’ve flat out bought many of their products) and I am in love.  In LOVE with KORRES.

Now, I know it’s very dangerous to have a crush on a brand.  We’ve all been there, falling in love with a brand and then been burned.   Every brand has its specialty right? (laura mercier: tinted – moisturizer, NARS – eye shadow, Urban Decay – shadow primer, etc, etc).  But I have loved everything I have tried so far from my beloved Korres.  So, let me tell you a little bit about them: George Korres, who worked at Athens’ oldest pharmacy (which I’m sure is a beautiful, stately place), started the company in 1996.   His vision: natural products that are highly effective, safe, and reasonably priced.  Today, Lena Korres is the head of Product Development.   And we love it when women are the creative forces behind companies because we’ve seen the magic that happens (thinking of Laura Mercier).

As I mentioned above, Korres is a natural brand.  And unlike many other natural brand, they very specifically list on each of their products what they DO and DO NOT contain.  Bravo, Korres!  You actually get it!!  Korres does everything: skincare, bath & body care, haircare, and makeup.

One of my favorite of their skincare products is the Antiaging and Anitwrinkle Quercetin and Oak Night Cream ($52) it’s fast absorbing, non greasy, smells heavenly (but you might have a problem with this if you’re a gal that can’t stand odors), and has done wonders for evening out and brightening my skin tone.  I love it. You can’t pry the stuff out of my hands.    I’ve also become a devotee of their bath and body line (scrumptious and moisturizing shower gels).  As for their makeup: I recommend their soft eye pencils and lip care products.  And well, Korres, I would LOVE to sample your other makeup products!  Maybe you should hire me?  You can pay me in makeup!

A quick recap of why I <3 Korres: They are natural, they specifically detail what their products DO and DON’T contain (including the recycled packaging), their products are cheaper than their competitors, and they WORK!

And, while we’re on Greek stuff, I tried the happy hour Kellari Taverna on K Street (I know, I know, I usually stay clear of K Street too!) not too long ago.  Pluses: classy setting (NOT what I was expecting for a greek restaurant), free food at the bar, and the greek wine was quite delicious.  Minuses: their drink specials really need to be better ($21/bottle is not a deal when all you want is a glass of wine).   And definitely a more “mature” crowd.

Beauty Review Rating Codes:

  • Crush: It's lust at its best. That thrill of something new, something exciting, something that gets your pulse racing. Will it last until next season? Maybe not. But who cares. It's here and its now.
  • Til Death do us Part: True Love. In it for the long haul. A product so near and dear to the heart, it's practically family.
  • Maybe next week: There's no denying a basic attraction and a certain level of interest. We're totally on board for a few dates but we're not penning love letters or making commitments here.
  • Let's just be friends: Listen, if we bump into each other, that's fine. There's nothing really wrong with it. It's just that there's nothing really right either...
  • Lost your number: Let's just forget this whole thing ever happened
