Trendspotting: Sloppy Tee to Chic in 5 Seconds
Posted by Jess - 09/06/10 at 11:06 amAnyone that knows me, knows I’m a big fan of belts. It’s such an easy way to dress up an outfit and an even better way to improve that coveted hip to waist ratio.
These days I’m seeing more belts than ever. Hell, in Philly right now, a racerback tank plus belt is now being sported as a DRESS. So take note. The right belt can take you from sloppy to trendy in the time it takes to fasten the clasp.
Behold!
And speaking of clasps, my biggest belt pet peeve is when you get that long hanging bit of belt that is the excess part you didn’t need. Or worse, you run out of belt and are straining to breathe against the tight girth of it on the last hole. The problem with knob-through-hole belts is that your waist/stomach width is different depending on whether you are sitting or standing; eating or drinking.
And that is why the elastic belt is genius. So long as you choose one that gives you enough wiggle room and it’s not leaving a red mark, you’ll find the elastic belts move with you. They’re being worn at the natural waist as shown and they come in an endless variety of colors, fabrics, and decals choices. I’m partial to the ones that look like a regular leather or braided belt but have a small bit of elastic in the back that gives you that forgiving stretch I was telling you about.
Best part is that they’re not terribly expensive. Those pictured above are from Urban Outfitters, Windsor, and Express and are all less than $30.
