Best Places in Philly for Meeting Men
Posted by Jess - 03/06/10 at 09:06 amIt saddens me that this post did not exist when I was first looking to answer this question myself. But SOMEONE has to forge the path, blaze the trail, and do the research. Am I right?
So after spending the last few years collecting data, here are my top picks for man-rich places to find men in Philly:
1. Sportsbars: Skip the swanky cocktail bars when you’re on a manhunt because the guy sipping a $12 martini on a Friday night with his entourage—he’s probably not the guy you’re seeking…. There are a ton of sports bars to choose from and my advice would be to keep it simple and start with the ones closest to where you live/work. But if you need suggestions, here are a few picks that never fail to deliver: Public House, Ladder 15, Tir Na Nog, and if you’re really brave –Chickie and Pete’s in South Philly.
2. Kelly Drive: If you’ve ever driven down Kelly drive on a sunny weekend, you’ve probably struggled to keep your eyes on the road. And that’s because the fit, topless, sweaty men of the city are jogging and biking down the trail getting in shape. There are even fit sweaty men IN the water in teams of rowers. How to meet one? Perhaps you can feign a fall or ask for help with your loose bike chain….?
3.Car clubs and car shows. Men love their toys and we have to admit that a hot man with a hot car makes a natural pair. Check out some of the clubs in the Philly area and watch their calendar for auto events and “cruising nights.” The male to female ratio will give you a completely unfair advantage. And don’t worry about being outed as a poser. If someone asks you why you came, you’ll say, “I love cars but I don’t know much about them so I came to learn.” Candy.From.A.Baby.

4.Coffee Shop on a Weekday. A lot of the work-from-home guys (sales especially) like to set up camp as a regular in their coffee shop of choice. Rather than frequent Starbucks, most like to designate a unique spot to call their own. Check out these spots during the week. The Bean Exchange in Bella Vista, Mugshots in the Fairmount area, and La Colombe in Rittenhouse. Look for the laptops, make eye contact, and then ask if he wouldn’t mind googling something for you…
5. At the Dog Park. Philly men love their pups. If you don’t have one, grab a friend’s dog and hit one of the many parks downtown to let Fido meet Buddy. Dogs have no problems approaching strangers and it’ll give you something immediately to talk about. Best time is right after work –5-7pm. Some places around town have even started Yappy Hour where dogs and owners can mingle and drink while the pups do the same. Check out meetup.com for dog clubs that meet regularly and special Yappy Hour fundraising events across the city. [Hint: Men own BIG and/or tough dogs not pocket dogs]
