Trendspotting: My Fashion No-Nos

This list will differ for every gal. I know that. But as you’ve heard me say before, one of the reasons I (co)created this blog was so that I could force my opinion on the world!!
And hey, have I thanked you lately for reading?
Where was I?
Oh, so diving right in, here are my fashion pet peeves…
1. Exposed bra-straps. I’m not Gwen Stefani and I really don’t want to be Courtney Love so my bra straps stay inside at all times (or as much as I can wrastle them into submission). Exposed bra straps look either sloppy or slutty and neither is good. In fact, every time I look at the photo above, I cringe. I can’t help it.
The one exception is if you have a bra with some sort of non-elastic strap. Like my friend “the other Jess” who has a collection of lace strap bras which look like she is wearing a cami or lacy tank underneath her shirt. I am super envious about it because, alas, they don’t sell them in my (small) size. It’s an injustice. BUT strapless bras are so good these days! Comfortable, seamless, and may I say, shape flattering? So please, I beg of you, use them!
2. Fake Layered Outfits. I hate one piece items that pretend to be two. I can’t explain why. It just unnerves me. In particular I hate sweaters or cardigans with “dickies” sewn into them. It makes me think of K-Mart. And in a bad way. Once in awhile I will break this rule. Like for those dresses everywhere right now with the white tank, black elastic waist band, and attached twirly skirt. I tell myself it is just a dress with 3 colors, not a dress pretending to be a skirt and tank top. But I admit it’s a close call.
3. Eyeliner that goes all the way around the eye. You know what I mean –when someone takes a jet black liquid liner and starts in one corner of their eye and paints a solid line until they make a full circle. There’s something about this that just lacks subtlety and attention to detail. At the least, your bottom lash liner should be thinner and more subtle than the top lash.
4. Uggs and Dresses. For some reason, it doesn’t bother me when people wear cowboy boots with a dress. You won’t see me doing it, but I can appreciate it as a legitimate fashion statement. But when you wear Uggs with a dress, I just think you’re lazy. Ok, that was a little mean. I do appreciate the need for comfortable footwear. But people, there are other more fashionable ways to go. May I suggest footwear from Clarks or Born? That would be a massive improvement.
And that’s my bitchfest for today! So now, it’s your turn. What fashion no-nos drive YOU nuts?
