Spring Makeovers
Posted by Christie - 16/03/10 at 08:03 amWhat is it about spring that brings out the IMMEDIATE need for a makeover? Right now I’m hating not only my hair, but my face and my elbows. Yes, it’s going to be a long season….I didn’t even feel pity for some of the ANTM girls on the season premiere when they got completely screwed by Tyra on their makeovers because at least it was A DIFFERENT LOOK. Maybe a bald look, but different, you know? Stop crying stupid contestants, it’s cycle 14. You knew you were going to get screwed regardless because it has happened 13 other times!

Anyway, apparently to start your makeover you need to know what face shape you are, because this impacts your haircut, style, and taxes….or something. So, I wandered over to the handy dandy face sizer at The Daily Makeover, and after answering some fairly simple questions (and having to join the mailing list–grr) I discovered that like Jennifer Garner and SJP, my face is oblong. What does that mean? Well, apparently I should avoid high ponytails (leads to questions like “why the long face?”) and befriend sideswept bangs with alacrity. Ok, I can do both of those things. But what about my taxes again?
But I’m of the theory that your hair does not matter in the same way that your makeup does. If you have great styled hair, for instance, but no makeup, you look half-finished and slightly odd (cue memories from high-school prom when I was wandering around a mall in a plaid button-down shirt with ornate hair and no make-up desperately trying to convince a sales lady to HELP ME OUT because I couldn’t do my own make up for love or money. But also–I looked far sillier with just the hair and plaid shirt than with the hair AND make up and plaid shirt. Trust me). BUT, when you have great makeup, bad hair all of a sudden takes on a look of “sexy bedhead” or “I meant to have a frizzy afro” versus “I haven’t combed my hair in a week” or “grease monkey.”
So really, what I am saying here is that I need both a haircut and some new makeup. Yay! I’m sold! Anyone else? Spring is in the air!
