SingleGirl: Hating on Technology

Ladies. LA-DEEES. I admit, I am not exactly in my early 20’s anymore. While I text message, I tend to use full words most of the time rather than random abbreviations. When I want to get to know someone, I often try the crazy approach of actually trying to talk to them. In person. Face to face. Yup. Shocking, I know. GROUNDBREAKING even. I want to see the person I am considering dating. Apparently, I’ve gone round the bend.
What is it about slightly younger men and their insistence on relying on random technology? I have noticed this across the board with men 2 years younger than me or more…there seems to be a weird generational divide with these guys. What IS it about texting or IM’ing versus talking? How do you successfully text or IM someone for long periods of time without actually knowing them at all? What is that ABOUT? Am I wrong here? Am I on some sort of crazy Redbull driven rampage where my overwhelming chocolate intake has somehow caused some sort of insane overreaction? INSANE OVERREACTION! Sigh. Anyway, against my better judgment I’m IM’ing with a guy who I’ve never met…ok, he’s seriously cute. SERIOUSLY. Ladies, I give you:
Exhibit Q: Tall, Dark, and very very handsome if photos are to be believed. I’m gifting him with the moniker of IM Guy.
So far the IM exchanges have been minimal and not worth repeating, (i.e “what are you doing now? I’m watching tv!”) I’m not sure he’ll actually turn into anything more than an email address; but since I’m feeling a little Scarlett in me and I’m here to date, as God and my couch (waves at couch) as my witness, I will try to meet the hot guy!
(Flash Update):
Ok, so Exhibit Q: IM Guy, has resurfaced after a sort of rocky start (how do you email a guy if all he does is IM you? And how do you remember to stay active on IM when you keep forgetting to log in? Yes, these are some of the problems that we face). But, somehow we overcame. And, he scored points—shocking! Mostly by saying that while he preferred to talk in person, he would type until I felt comfortable. So I suggested that we just jump to the in-person and he quickly agreed. Date this week! And I suspect I’m at least going to enjoy looking at him….
Wheee!
