SingleGirl: Match.com Round 1
Posted by SingleGirl - 06/08/09 at 07:08 pmOk, so after warming up on Plenty of Fish and talking with my friends, I was convinced to go on Match.com and see what else was out there. Immediately, I was cheered by the number of attractive (to me!) men who seemed both interesting AND available. So, with baited breath I uploaded some photos and made a profile I had written a few years ago visible.
Initially, I was excited. Match has a “Daily 5” matches that I thought was something that could prove interesting, and a much easier user interface than POF. However, I quickly discovered that the Daily 5 was really very random and completely useless, and the user interface, while overall better than POF, won’t let you see what he wrote when you hit “respond.” Thanks Match!
But, BUT, we are off! And there are live ones! While still wading through a lot of chaff, I do feel better about Match than POF. And, I have had two dates (with the same guy) to prove it. We’ll call him…
Exhibit C: Tall Drink (of water).
What my problem has been, and continues to be, is that the way a man’s personality inhabits his body and face always completely shocks me. Tall Drink was no exception to this somewhat frustrating rule, though it wasn’t that I did not find him attractive, just not what I expected. Anyway, after I arrived late with a dying phone to an unexpectedly crowded happy hour, I was stressed. Fortunately, he eventually found me at the bar and rescued me to a comfortable corner. And…chemistry was born! Attractive in a manly way, he also did have a somewhat charming and invigorating personality and I found him easy to chat with. He challenged me, we played games, and then after two rounds of drinks he invited me to dinner that night on the spot. Something in me held back (maybe Steve’s advice from “The MANual?” maybe work commitments?) and I said no. So, he invited me out for later in the week (calling me at my office and using an alias which I found hilarious)—and I did go to dinner….and drinks….and after 4.5 hours, he kissed me. It was very well executed, just a brush, but left me…intrigued. So, this week I’m going out with him again (probably mexican! hopefully this will be a better experience than was my POF man, though really, that is a low bar!) He’s made his interest clear, but me, I’m not as sure. And in the meantime, Ladies of the Jury, I present exhibit D:
Exhibit D: Says he is tall, dark blonde, appears both cute AND fit. Ex-military turned lawyer. Happy Hour drinks also this week. (Nickname: Lawyer D)
