SingleGirl: Taking on Plenty of Fish
Posted by SingleGirl - 14/07/09 at 03:07 pmOk, so have you ladies done the online dating thing? Have you heard about Plenty of Fish? Am I alone here? POF is the free dating site, which you see with the crappy interface and unfriendly design (i.e., you can’t search by height). But, BUT, it has several key attributes:
1. It is free!
2. You can have your photos rated, which is kind of awesome if you want to figure out which photos you should be posting on a more user friendly site (Match.com anyone?)
3. It is free?
I’ll admit, the caliber of men is much what you might expect on a site like this (cough, not good, cough), but, as AskJess reminds me, it’s a numbers game, and it only takes one number…the number 1. Or, in my case, the number 6’2” or above. Of course, on the way to meeting your prince there is an unfortunate frog quotient. And yes, I have gotten plenty of them. But, as a lady on a mission (test these sites so YOU don’t have to) I’m willing to stare down a few frogs in order to get to a prince. Back in the day I used to be really open to dating whomever and meeting a lot of people….but after many dates with guys who I really did not find attractive, that day is long gone. Nowadays, I have a few rules to live by:
1. Trust your gut
2. If he doesn’t post at least two good (re: not blurry and not far away) photos, move on
3. Only move at a speed that makes YOU comfortable
4. Unless he says he is over 6 feet tall then automatically take about 2 inches off his listed height.
5. Any guy worth meeting will read your profile, and be grammatically savvy enough to comment on it.
So, Ladies of the Jury, I give you the first two men in the dock:
Exhibit A: Tall, Dark and….Goofily Handsome? (Nickname: TDGH).
Exhibit B: Tall, potentially cute, maybe a doctor, and probably a tool (Blonde tool).
I have scheduled meetings with both of them this week, and I’m already entertained at how a few small things can set a guy for success, or drive the first nail in his coffin. For example: TDGH has witty banter, answers my questions, is not pushing too hard, offered drinks/dinner, and then when I responded suggested a place and a time in a way that made me feel good. Blonde Tool on the other hand, answered few of my questions, pushed hard to meet, but failed to really follow through on time/date and place. Leaving me to be like: “Let’s meet here at this time, k?” and move on. Ok, I’m only meeting him because he is cute, and tall, and a doctor and I need a check up. Is that bad? Comment below!!!
